Hugely thanks to internet superpower Reddit, Imgur is definitely regarded as the web's most elite all-purpose image host. The website's emergence took a huge chunk out of similar sites like Tinypic. Imgur just does free image hosting better. The look and feel of the uploading interface is so much nicer than other sites in the same class and it'll definitely help when you aren't barraging users with ads.
While there are some pretty good browser extensions that make sending uploads through Imgur a lot easier, Imgur has yet to officially release one of their own (or even better, a desktop client). I did recently come across a piece of software that adds a little more functionality and portability to the service though, and I'd like to share that through this post.

While the client itself is incredibly simple and straightforward, MyImgur goes to prove that desktop applications are not a dead act. Tablets and smartphones have taken over and yeah, we're used to being spoiled and having a dedicated App Store app for every little website we use, but I appreciate when programs like MyImgur still release for the desktop. Don't forget about us yet.
What looks like the Imgur website simply tossed into a frame with some additional tools is actually a good bit more. MyImgur offers full Imgur account support to upload to albums, create an album, delete albums and pictures, etc.
Additional features include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Context menu support to upload directly from Windows Explorer
- Batch uploads (uploading multiple files at once)
- Live screenshotting for direct uploads
- Pasting from the clipboard
- Hotkeys to support major features
Straight from the menubar, you're able to mass upload or immediately upload a screen capture.
MyImgur is complimented by some very extensive settings that allow you to tweak the application to your desire.
You're able to preset quality settings, and even set a throttle based on image sizes. Not sure if there's another Imgur application that supports that feature! Changing folders, hotkeys, and enabling or disabling extra options can also be performed from this same window.
MyImgur gives you complete control over the style of your application as well, going as far as to let you change the application background and color scheme. While these aren't the essential components of any functional application, even then why not? It's good to see that they've gone the extra length to make sure that the program is as useable as possible.
Regular updates are pushed to MyImgur and you can have the application automatically check for them. The MyImgur team is really good with quickly updating to make sure that any changes to Imgur are kept uniform in the application.
If this application interests you, check out some other tools that Imgur cites on their official website. They've got browser extensions for Firefox and Chrome, applications for Linux, OS X, and Windows, and more. Let me know what you guys think of MyImgur in the comments!
