A multi-vehicle, chain-reaction crash that stopped traffic in eastbound and westbound lanes of Highway 84 West early Wednesday started with a collision between a 2005 Freightliner driven by Sandi Patrick of Forest slamming into a 2017 Hyundai Sonata driven by Dorvia Hartzog of Prentiss in a westbound lane, just west of Ben Pitts Road.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol released names and other information regarding the chaotic scene that involved at least 20 vehicles and injured more than a dozen — but had no fatalities. The following were listed in the accident report that was released by MHP:

• A 2022 Nissan Rogue driven by Amanda Keyes, 44, of Laurel;

• A 2020 Nissan Versa driven by Shabraia Wheaton, 23, of Louin;

• A 2004 Ford F150 driven by Nicole Harris, 28, of Laurel;

• A 2020 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Russell Haigler, 39, of Ovett;

• A 2019 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Jason Todd, 49, of Laurel;

• A 2014 Chevrolet Silverado driven by William Rock, 52, of Blairsville;

• A 1999 Ford Van driven by William Newell, 72, of Heidelberg;

• A 2005 Freightliner driven by Joshua Amos, 45, of Florence;

• A 2019 Dodge Charger driven by Stephanie Phillips, 39, of Collins;

• A 2022 Ford Escape driven by Alisa Ishee, 60, of Taylorsville;

• A 2015 Nissan Murano driven by Loretta Polson, 55, of Taylorsville;

• A 2017 Ford pickup driven by Joseph Dupree, 81, of Taylorsville;

• A 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Jamie Rogers, 45, of Collins

The Freightliner overturned and lost its load of logs, and heavy fog covered the area at the time and was a contributing cause of the crash, according to the MHP report. Other vehicles traveling in both directions were involved in secondary crashes at the same location. Multiple drivers were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The crash remains under investigation by MHP.
